Smartphone users brace yourselves because the pregnant man emoji is all set to take center stage, later this year.
Authorities recently unveiled the decision to include the pregnant man emoji as a part of the striking collection of new characters that will be available for smartphone users soon. But the decision was not welcomed by so many, especially those who felt it was a slap in the face to women.
Unicode approved the decision recently, unveiling the striking 37 new emojis that will be available but as you can probably expect, those that were most controversial topped the list.
Moreover, the company was quick to mention how the ‘pregnant man’ and the ‘pregnant person’ were both a part of their initiative to include options that come under the category of ‘gender-inclusive.’
But what really shocked so many was their justification for the act which entailed the following statement: “men get pregnant in real life and in fiction, just like the 1994 film ‘Junior’, it went on to explain.
Both the pregnant man as well as the pregnant person are proof that pregnancy is possible for some men who belong to the transgender community, as well as those belonging to the non-binary community as well, it explained. But that just was not good enough for plenty who felt it was a deal to stir up further controversy.
However, there were some critics who took the deal in a more positive way, adding how the way you look at things truly determines your reaction to such incidents. And that’s when they began speaking about how the emoji could also symbolize a food baby or a man that is suffering from a very full stomach due to eating too much.
