A pregnant firefighter who has been battling raging bushfires in NSW, Australia, has hit back at trolls who mocked her for doing her job and helping her community.
As Katherine Robinson-Williams revealed, she’s not willing to slow down when it comes to saving lives despite the fact that she’s 13 weeks pregnant.
“If my home goes, it can be replaced. Homes can be rebuilt, people can’t be. We’ve already lost too many people to these fires. I’m going to be there for my community as long as I’m able to,” the brave 23-year-old said in an interview with 10Daily.
After her story went viral, people applauded her for her bravery and contributions to her community. However, there were also plenty of critics who mocked her for her decision to fight the flames during her pregnancy.
“For all the females on the ground in NSW right now. We stand together we stand proud! Yes I am a firefighter,” Katherine wrote in her touching Facebook post as she announced she refuses to stay behind while her community is in danger.
“No I’m not a man. Yes I am a female. Yes I am pregnant. Yes I am going to the fires. And yes I’ll be alright. No I won’t just stay behind. No I don’t care if you don’t like it.
“THIS IS MY STATE IN FLAMES! I love my country I love my mates. And if that means I’m needed on the ground. Then I’ll always make the way.”
Despite her critics, Katherine defended her decision to remain active as a firefighter and claimed it was safe for her to do her job.
“I have cleared with my doctors and I wear a mask while on the ground, it’s safe for me to be there,” she said.
