The world has many wonders to offer and even two lifetimes won’t be enough to explore its many hidden beauties.
From natural sceneries to beautiful architectural sites, people can go from one area to another and enjoy breathtaking views and spectacular places.
But the sad truth is, we keep losing the beautiful places we love even when we know how to protect them. Below are seven famous spots that the world has lost only within five years.
#1 Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, England
These balancing rocks have been formed by ice and wind over millions of years.
But in 2018, teens knocked down one of the balancing rocks in Brimham Rocks, breaking it into pieces.Aside from ruining the treasure, they carved their names on the famous stones that appeared even before dinosaurs roamed the planet.
#2 The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen, Denmark
It was in 1909 when the sculpture was created by Edvard Eriksen. The mermaid statue was decapitated twice, has been covered with graffiti and paints numerous times, and lost her arm.
#3 Notre-Dame de Paris, Paris, France
Notre-Dame de Paris served as a cultural, religious and educational center not only for France but the whole world. It survived wars, religious and political conflicts. However, the popular architecture suffered from a massive fire in April 2019. #4 Lake Mackenzie, Tasmania, Australia
In 2016, Tasmania suffered bush fires which destroyed unique plants that have no chances to grow again. 20,000 hectares of wilderness were wiped out but many plants are now showing signs of recovery. Lake Mackenzie was also heavily affected by the blaze.
#5 Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA

But the park suffered from vandalism, and people started fires, damaged the trails, and cut down the trees. One former superintendent said that it might take up to 300 years for the park to recover from the damages.
#6 Temple of Bel, Palmyra, Syria
The Temple of Bel is one of the most important religious buildings from the 1st century AD. It had over 1,000 columns, a necropolis with over 500 tombs, and a Roman aqueduct. But because of the 2015 war in Syria, the main temple was destroyed and only two columns were left standing amidst ruins.
#7 Legzira Beach, Sidi Ifni, Morocco
