In the recent times, the Catholic Church has been hit by one sexual abuse scandal after another, leading to Pope Francis announcing that he believes the Devil is responsible for the crisis that the Church is dealing with and that he is trying to separate the believers.
According to the Pope, the Devil is very much real and he is working hard to undermine the Roman Catholic Church. As the Roman Catholic leader said, it is Satan who should be blamed for the sexual abuse scandals and the crisis that the Church is going through.
“(The Church must be) saved from the attacks of the malign one, the great accuser and at the same time be made ever more aware of its guilt, its mistakes, and abuses committed in the present and the past,” Pope Francis said on September 29, asking everyone to recite a special prayer to beat the Devil.
Even since his election in 2013, the Pope has made it clear that he thinks the Devil is real and that he walks the Earth.
“We should not think of the devil as a myth, a representation, a symbol, a figure of speech or an idea. This mistake would lead us to let down our guard, to grow careless and end up more vulnerable,” Francis wrote in a document.
Following one sexual abuse scandal after another and the deepening polarization between the believers, mostly the conservatives and liberals, the Pope announced that he believes this to be Satan’s act to undermine the Roman Catholic Church.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Vatican’s former ambassador and a huge conservative critic, accused Pope Francis and Church officials of being aware of sexual misconduct but not doing anything about it back in August.
This led Viganò into concluding that Pope Francis referred to him as the ‘devil in disguise’ and the “great accuser” in his recent speech. The Archbishop believes Francis “compared me to the great accuser, Satan, who sows scandal and division in the Church, though without ever uttering my name.”
Being utterly convinced that Satan, and not the humans themselves, is responsible for the despicable acts of the Roman Catholic Church representatives, the Pope enlisted the aid of St. Michael, the Archangel who is known to have banished Lucifer from Heaven according to the Bible.
The Pope asked the Catholics around the world to recite the rosary daily, concluding their routine with a prayer to St. Michael that reads:
“St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defence against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.”
