The lucky poodle’s name is Porschia who is 16 years old as well as being deaf and nearly blind, which makes her survival all the more remarkable. She was just lounging at the back deck of her owner’s home in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, on February 20 was a hawk suddenly swooped down and grabbed her, related her owner, Debra Falcione.

Debra spent hours searching for the poodle but given Porschia’s condition as well as the temperature that sank into the teens overnight, Debra was sure she would never see her beloved pet alive again.

“I was crying my eyes out,” she told ABC Pittsburgh affiliate WTAE. “She is my life. My dogs are my life.”

This is why she was floored by a call she received more than 28 hours later from the Banfield Pet Hospital who informed her that Porschia was safe and sound with them. She said she simply couldn’t believe what she was hearing at first.

“I went down there, and sure enough, this is the dog,” she said. “The old dog with the strongest will to survive.”

According to hospital staff, a neighbor roughly four blocks from Debra’s home found the hapless but lucky dog after the hawk had dropped her.

Porschia was quickly placed in a heating tank after the kind neighbor turned her in, reported WTAE. Although Porschia was lethargic, she didn’t suffer any broken bones and is expected to make a full recovery.

Debra rightly described Porschia’s rescue as a miracle.

“How she got away, I’ll have no idea. How she survived it, I will never know,” she said. “But I know one thing: by the grace of God, this dog is still alive.”
