A politician has admitted writing a disturbing hate-filled letter that sparked a police investigation after the man claimed he received it in his mailbox.
As 29-year-old Jonathan Lopez from Umatilla County, Oregon, previously suggested as he filed a police report, he was subjected to a homophobic and racist letter delivered to him by an anonymous source.
Following an investigation, however, Hermiston Police revealed that Lopez provided the authorities with false statements and shared deceiving information on social media after penning the letter himself.
While the official investigation has been closed after it was discovered that the ‘victim’ was responsible for writing the disturbing letter, Lopez could be facing charges for initiating a false police report.
“From the onset, this alleged incident has been thoroughly investigated. Our investigation has shown that Mr. Lopez wrote the letter himself and made false statements to the police and on social media,” Police Chief Jason Edmiston confirmed in an interview with East Oregonian.
As the 29-year-old claimed after he was caught in the web of lies according to East Oregonian, he “never meant to mislead” the people but merely aimed to use the opportunity to address the topic of racism in the country.
In the fake letter, Lopez called himself the N-word and suggested he should rot in he** and return to his own country among other insults.
“America is for the God-fearing, pro gun, pro life humans who refuse to be controlled by the government. There’s no room for people like you here,” a part of the letter wrote.
After sharing a photo of the letter online, the politician responded to the imaginary racist by saying he has “no resentment” for the person behind the letter because he had “lived a life full of obstacles and challenges including racism.”
