A police officer was seen using a helmet to pour water over the barbecue of lockdown violators who were sitting on the beach and having fun despite government orders to stay at home.
The incident occurred on a beach somewhere in the UK where a pair has decided to hold a barbecue outing despite the authorities warning people that going outdoors without a justified reason is prohibited.
In the footage shared online by Dave Strauss, police officers are seen walking up to the pair before using a helmet filled with water to douse the barbecue.
As some Twitter users suggested after the video went viral, it is sometimes necessary to go to extra lengths to teach people a lesson.
The news follows shortly after officials were forced to close one of London’s main parks due to people who refuse to follows orders.
“Despite clear advice, over 3,000 people spent today in Brockwell Park, many of them sunbathing or in large groups. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the actions of a minority now mean that, following police advice, Brockwell Park will be closed tomorrow,” Lambeth Council said in a statement after deciding to temporarily shut Brockwell Park.
Meanwhile, nations across the world are resorting to different measures to punish those breaking the lockdown orders.
While we’ve seen pictures from India that show officers resorting to light beatings with sticks and batons to punish lockdown violators, one Indian officer came upon a brilliant idea to teach people a lesson about the virus.
The cop in question is Rajesh Babu, a patrol officer from the city of Chennai, who’s been busy enforcing quarantine rules and regulations following India’s decision to put the entire country on lockdown.
To get his point across, Mr. Babu walks around in a unique virus-like helmet that he created to educate people about the dangers of failing to comply with social distancing orders.
“We take all the steps, but still people come out on the streets. Therefore, this corona helmet is one of the steps we are taking to ensure that people are aware of the seriousness of the police. The helmet is an attempt to do something different,” the officer said in an interview with Asian News International.
“When I wear this, the thought of coronavirus comes into the minds of the commuters. Especially, the children react strongly after seeing this and want to be taken home.”
As for the reason behind his invention, Babu admitted he tried to do something different because plenty of people aren’t taking the lockdown seriously. “We had been talking to the public. But awareness among them is very less. So we thought of doing something different,” he added.
