Locals, friends, and family members of a deceased have been left outraged after the police officers pulled over a hearse in order to breath-test the driver in the middle of a funeral procession.
As the mourners who witnessed the “disturbing” moment which took place in the town of Dalby in Queensland, Australia, reported, two officers stopped the vehicle transporting a coffin to breath-test the driver.
“I saw a hearse with somebody’s loved one pulled over by a random rbt on the way to the cemetery with the family following,” the church minister who witnessed the incident wrote on Facebook.
“Perhaps the two officers may want to have a good look at themselves. BLOODY DISGUSTING.”
According to the reports, the police not only pulled over The Generations Funerals hearse but also the family vehicle that followed.
Following the public outrage, the Dalby police spoke out to Courier Mail and claimed the officers didn’t go through with the breath-testing. They also claimed pulling the vehicles over was a mistake because the officers didn’t notice the vehicle was a hearse.
Nevertheless, angry locals didn’t buy their story, claiming it would be impossible to mistake the hearse for a regular vehicle.
“No morals or respect but then again it is the police. Good at demanding respect but forthcoming with very little,” one person wrote after the incident went viral.
“How horrible for the family, those two cops need to be reprimanded, obviously they have never had to bury a loved one,” another one added.
As Generations Funerals later revealed, the case has been handed over to Queensland Police who is looking into the matter.
“We will not make any further comment pending their investigations and review of the matter,” they announced.
