Cops are not just robots who wear shades all day with a perpetual frown on their faces. They’re actual people too who think and feel just as we do and know when to have some fun.

That was aptly demonstrated during Independence Day when some residents of Asheville, North Carolina wanted to celebrate that day with a wonderful slip’n slide which would also be perfect against the searing heat. It was going to be a fun event that everyone can enjoy, especially the kids.

Unfortunately, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed and decided to call the police on the block party claiming that it blocked traffic and made too much noise. Asheville police officers promptly responded to the call but reacted far differently from what the original caller had planned.

Rather than shutting down the slide as the grouchy neighbor wanted, the police decided to join in on the fun!

Video footage shows the police officers having the time of their lives along with the children on July 2 and the clip has gone viral. One of the local residents, Katlen Joyce Smith, told local news outlets that the slide was set up for children living in the block for the July 4 weekend. The slide was reported for blocking the road but the police officers who arrived saw there was nothing wrong and even wanted to join in on the fun.

“When the female officer asked for a garbage bag, we almost didn’t believe it. But she took off her radio and went for it.” Katlen said. Katlen was speaking of senior officer Carrie Lee who was one of the responding officers along with her partner Officer Jones.

When they found out that Jones couldn’t fit in the black garbage bags, one of the kids helpfully loaned him an inflatable raft so that Jones could play!

Officer Jones was the one who took the video that showed his colleague having the time of her life on the slide. The neighborhood was truly fortunate that these officers were able to exercise proper judgment in determining that there was simply no reason to stop some good old sliding fun!
