An 87-year-old man who was forced to sleep on a bed frame without blankets and kept locked in a filthy room has been rescued by Mexico police.
The heartbreaking discovery occurred while officers were serving a warrant for the repossession of unpaid items at the Guanajuato home of Leticia, 54.
Agents were removing unpaid goods from the house when they heard cries from one of the rooms, where they found Leticia’s 87-year-old father, Bonifacio.
Celaya municipal police shared photos that show the room’s filthy conditions with dirty clothes on the bed frame and trash littering the floor.
The 87-year-old was forced to sleep on the bottom part of the bed frame without a mattress and blankets.
According to reports, Bonifacio suffers from an unknown condition on both of his legs. He was rescued from the house as the living condition was deemed inhumane.
Officers took the elderly man to a local clinic before he was transferred to a nursing home. His daughter was arrested and placed in the custody of the Guanajuato state prosecutor’s office.
One internet user commented: “Poor man. How cruel of the daughter to keep him locked up and in unsanitary conditions. That’s elder abuse. I’m glad she was apprehended by police.”
Another wrote: “Someone who was raised with love and respect would never in a million years treat a parent like this. In parenting, you reap what you sow.”
