A police commissioner lashed out at Black Lives Matter protesters and called them “spoiled brats” who are responsible for “wasting police resources.
”
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea took an aim at the BLM movement and its protesters following violent protests in the Big Apple sparked by the death of a black city worker from Texas.
Jonathan Price was reportedly gunned down by officer Shaun David Lucas after attempting to break up a domestic dispute at a Wolfe City gas station.
Following the city worker’s unwarranted death, protesters took to the streets of New York City to demonstrate and resorted to “breaking windows, property damage, graffiti, lighting fires” according to Shea.
“Breaking windows, property damage, graffiti, lighting fires. I mean, that is the last thing that we as New Yorkers need right now,” the police commissioner told NY1.
“And that’s last night in New York City – 24 more arrests, you know, at a time when we have diminished resources, and we have a violent uptick with the courts and everything else going on.
“We don’t need officers pulled away for these, sometimes I don’t know what you call them – peaceful protesters – maybe spoiled brats at this point.”
Shea’s comments follow a surge of protests sparked by the shooting of Jonathan Price, a Texas city worker who allegedly tried to break up a domestic dispute when he was shot by police officer Shaun David Lucas.
After the shooting, Lucas was arrested and charged with murder.
According to the Texas Ranger Division, “the preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable.”
As the Texas Rangers explained in a statement, Lucas was responding to a disturbance call when he came across Price who reportedly tried to resolve a domestic dispute.
“Officer Lucas attempted to detain Price, who resisted in a non-threatening posture and began walking away,” the statement read before adding that Price was then tasered and shot by Lucas.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the actions of Officer Lucas were not objectionably reasonable. The Texas Rangers have charged Officer Lucas with the offense of murder.”
