A crowd of some sixty police officers surprised the protesters as they bent the knee and joined them in paying a tribute to George Floyd.
Amid calls for justice surrounding the death of George Floyd, the man who passed out and died after a police officer had been brutally kneeling on his neck, protests against police brutality have been taking place across the nation.
While some riots involve the destruction of property, burning, and looting, there are also plenty of peaceful protests during which the police and the community come together as one.
One such inspirational protest took place in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where some sixty officers appeared in front of the protesters on Murchison Road.
Rather than confronting the protesters, however, the cops bent the knee for half a minute to show the people that they, too, “stand for justice.”
“As a show of understanding the pain that is in our community and our nation regarding equality, the #FayPD took a knee to show that we also stand for justice for everyone,” the police department announced in their Twitter post after the photos of the kneeling cops went viral.
“We are committed to listening and treating everyone with dignity and respect.”
According to the reports, protesters, who were initially not happy with the large presence of cops at the scene, were overjoyed after the officers took a knee.
“Men and women alike started crying and then cautiously came toward the police officers to shake their hands…” Mimamo Monika alleged on social media.
“This all happened right around 8:00 PM when the curfew started and I take it the protesters thought they were going to be arrested … but our Fayetteville PD humbly knelt before them instead.”
