A police officer from Rhode Island is doing her bit to aid those in need amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Warwick Police Department got a call a few days back that an eighty-seven-year-old woman was at her home without food along with her disabled son.
Then, officer Jill Marshall decided to come forward quickly and provide assistance.
A service organization called West Bay Community action contacted the police for revealing that they were not able to help the lady get groceries until two more days. This information was shared by the Warwick Police Department on Facebook.
The next day, Jill, who works in Community Services Division performed a welfare check on both the lady and her son.
She then noted down the woman’s grocery list. After that, Jill volunteered to shop for the lady, her son, as well as their cat.
Marshall said that numerous people offered to contribute to the items mentioned on the list when she walked to the grocery store.
The store she went to covered $25 out of the total amount while other customers donated sufficient amount of money to pay for one hundred dollars worth of groceries.
Marshall revealed that she was ready to use her money to assist the family but the generous people shopping at the grocery store contributed to the amount for her list.
She added that she would have never left the family as well as make them wait for essentials because it is not humane.
She further added that she felt appreciative and grateful for the people who overheard her and took out some money to help her.
According to the Facebook post of the police department, Marshall was able to buy everything on the list.
She expressed that when she saw how relieved and happy were the mother and son, it made her night and it made her feel extremely good.
