A gunman opened fire at a mall in Wisconsin, injuring at least seven people.
Seven adults and a teen have been shot and injured after the shooter opened fire at the Mayfair Mall on Friday afternoon.
The mayor of Wauwatosa, Dennis McBride, said none of the victims have life-threatening injuries.
75 police officers and at least ten ambulances arrived minutes later but the gunman, who was described as a male in his 20s or 30s, fled the scene.
“When the emergency services arrived, the gunman was no longer on the scene,” Barry Weber, chief of Wauwatosa police, said.
“There have not been any fatalities that I am aware of.”
He also said that all of those injured were alive when they were rushed to a hospital.
The mall and a school in the area are currently on lockdown, according to reports.
A woman who was inside Macy’s said to CBS 58 she heard at least eight gunshots outside the store. “We were on the third floor,” Jill Wooley said.
“We heard eight to twelve gunshots, and dropped to the floor.”
Wooley, who was with her 79-year-old at that time, said they did not see the shooter as they tried to go to the basement.
“We went through another doorway and found more employees, and told them what was happening. They immediately ran off to find some information, and what we should do. Shortly after we all ran out of the building,” she added.
Mr. McBride also said to ABC News that the gunman is ‘at large’ and the SWAT teams are combing the area to search for the shooter.
Wauwatosa Police Department asked residents to avoid the area.
One person commented: “I am fine. I am away from the area. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA TO ALLOW EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TO GET THROUGH.”
Another wrote: “Idk what the f**k is happening but i’m sitting in p.f. chang’s and people are RUNNING out of mayfair mall. no one is telling us what’s going on.”
