Not many things can faze police officers and apparently, shepherding a swan off a busy street is one of them. It took three police officers roughly 30 minutes to try to get the rogue swan back home but they weren’t having much luck using riot shields. A loaf of bread, however, did the trick quite nicely.

The hilarious incident happened on a busy street in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland when the bird strayed roughly 200 yards from its normal home in Murdieston Park.

Two police vans arrived and they tried to herd the swan back home but had a hard time doing so.

They used riot shields but the swan refused to budge but gave in when they offered it some bread instead.

Alison Robertson witnessed the whole thing from her home along the street and filmed the bizarre operation.

She said, “From when it lands on the main road to getting it back up to the dam, the whole thing lasted about 30 minutes.

“I grew up on that street and this same thing happened every so often if it wasn’t swans it was ducks.”

In the video, there is an officer on each side of the swan using their shields to try and keep the swan on the pavement.

The swan stops at one point and the female officer gently prods the bird’s tail feathers with her shield to try to get it moving again.

The bird then hops off onto another road, causing a car to hold up before a pedestrian approaches to feed it bread.

One of the policemen then keeps holding the loaf for the rest of the trip.

As the police continue attempting to lead it back to the reservoir, the undeterred swan continues at its own pace.

Armed with the loaf of bread, the police officers feed the bird every time it stops.

The clip ends with the swan being directed back home.

Alison captioned the clip, which she posted on Facebook, with: “Even the Swans in Greenock are mental.”
