When you’re off having a good time with your family, you rarely think about work.
For some people, however, it’s difficult to completely separate your life from work – especially those who work for the people like police officers or firefighters.
A police officer who asked to remain anonymous was enjoying his day off with his wife, when he noticed something strange.
There was a two-year-old walking by herself, and the couple instantly knew that something wasn’t right. So, he and his wife decided to stop the car to find out what’s going on.
When asked, the child said that she was walking to school because her mom was asleep. She said that her mom wouldn’t wake up.
That just didn’t seem right, so the officer asked the little girl if she could take him to her house. He added that he’d take her to school once he visited her mom.
And when the couple arrived to the child’s house, he knew that his instincts were right. The girl’s mother wasn’t asleep; it turned out that she had died.
The officer quickly called the officials, who arrived and removed the mother’s body and sought proper care for the child.
And the chief inspector, Steve Maskrey, applauded this officer’s quick decision and attention to his surroundings during an interview with the Mirror.
“This is a brilliant piece of work by him that shows that we are never off-duty. The officer and his wife took the time to look after the little girl and stay with her until emergency services arrived. Sadly, nothing could be done to help the woman. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time,” said Chief Inspector.
I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if this officer didn’t notice the child, or didn’t bother to ask about her situation.
It’s amazing how police officers always work to keep us safe – day and night.
