The disciplinary action follows after Martillo was spotted wearing a “politically oriented patch” at a Black Lives Matter protest in Brooklyn last week.

As seen in the photos from the rally, the police sergeant was in fact wearing two political patches featuring The Punisher skulls with Trump’s signature yellow hairdo. One of the patches read: “Trump Make Enforcement Great Again 2020.”

According to the NYPD policy, members of law enforcement are barred from “publicly expressing personal views and opinions concerning the merits of any political party or candidate for public office.”

The backlash follows after an Instagram user known as @nickybla shared a video of the sergeant showing off her controversial patches during the BLM protest.

“Officer Dana Martillo, Shield 26835, Traffic Division 30. Proud Trump Supporter who arrested an African immigrant after he was robbed while driving his cab because she profiled him and assumed he was the robber,” the netizen captioned their video.

“SHAME ON YOU. Martillo attempted to escalate all night, getting in our faces, blowing kisses, and refusing to properly wear her mask.”

After people called for the sergeant to be sacked, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea urged members of law enforcement to stay apolitical.

“Members of the NYPD must remain apolitical — it’s essential to public trust & officers’ ability to perform their jobs,” he tweeted.
