Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Gorman told the host that she came upon the idea to pursue the presidency after her sixth-grade teacher proposed she should run for president because she’s a “very passionate, feisty girl.”

“You know what? That tracks. Let’s put that on the bulletin board for the future,” she told Ellen as she recalled the beginnings of her plan after the showrunner asked her if she’s always wanted to become a president.

“And it’s something that my family takes very seriously because when I say something, I mean business,” the author of three books, including The Hill We Climb and Other Poems, The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country, and Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem, added.

As the 23-year-old insisted, her twin sister wouldn’t even let other people take pictures of her at college parties knowing that Amanda might run for president in the future.

“She’d say, ‘Don’t get a photo of me. My sister is running for president 25 years from now. I can’t have an image coming up then,’” Gorman said. “So we really all hold ourselves accountable to the dream.”

Voicing her support for the potential presidential candidate was DeGeneres who said she’s got her back as she showed Gorman fake campaign memorabilia suggesting that the poet will run for president in 2036.
