A plumber went viral for offering elderly and disabled customers free services and he proved humanity still exist.
James Anderson, 52, from Burnley noticed that his work has gone viral after he saw a picture of his bill for $0 sent to a 91-year-old woman with acute leukaemia was posted online.
People were so impressed with plumber’s kind gesture that they decided to donate a staggering amount of money £80,000 ($99,400) to help him keep the good work.
Mr. Anderson said: ”People are talking about doing it in America, France and Australia, and they’re all going to contact me to get advice and guidance as to how to do it in their countries.”
”Hopefully we can bring all communities together for one common cause across the planet, so everybody who’s elderly and disabled, not just in the UK, can benefit from something like this in society.”
Mr. Anderson confirmed that he had received donations, saying that before the fame ‘I’d have been lucky if I could pay my overdraft.’
He said: ”I had to lay two of the lads off because I couldn’t afford it, then I had to go out and do the jobs myself as well as the paperwork, advertising, quotes and everything else. Now I can look at bringing them back.”
”We don’t just have to do Lancashire now. I’m going to be ringing local engineers in the wider area.”
”We’ve had companies say they’ll do all the advertising for us including a website, all free of charge. This is just the beginning of something that can be global.”
In 2017, Mr. Anderson decided to close his private business despite the risk of going bankrupt and he opened a non-profit company called Depher to help people in need. He was provided free or discounted plumbing services to over 2,000 people in Lancashire after his initiative was created.
He had to rely on crowdfunding and donations to keep it .going. The donations were not enough to pay the expenses and put Mr. Anderson in debt of around £8,000($9,200).
”To me, debt is debt… I would rather owe some money to somebody and another person be alive and happy and safe,” Mr. Anderson told The Sun.
After going viral, people came to help him and supported the generous plumber by donating as much money as they could.
Mr. Anderson said: ”I’m overwhelmed. It makes you realize how kind people are and how amazing our country is. I don’t think I’m doing anything particularly kind. I’m just doing what I feel is the right thing.”
