We all know that dogs will try their absolute best to go back home where their family is. While this is not considered a secret by any means, the incredible 10,000 mile journey that a pooch called Pip took from South Carolina to Australia is a heartwarming story.
The Eilbecks were sailing around the world before the global pandemic began. By the time they arrived in the beautiful shores of South Carolina, the family was told that they had 48 hours before the borders close.
Because Australia has very strict customs and import regulations on livestock, Pip the Dachshund pooch was not able to travel together with the rest of the family. Thinking that they can soon return to where they left off and continue their journey, the family asked a friend to take care of Pip.
However, like so many other plans of 2020, this didn’t unfold like the family imagined. Although the Eilbecks expected the farewell to be a relatively short one of around six weeks, that is not what happened.
Before their flight back to Sydney, the Eilbecks asked their friend Lynn Williams in North Carolina to take care of Pip until they come back. However, because Williams was already caring for 2 other dogs, Pip’s guardianship was transferred to another North Carolinian.
During this transfer, the new guardians said they were not fully informed about the back story as to why Pip was left all alone in the US. They disclosed how they started to assume that the Australians had ditched their pup in the US as they scuttled off back home.
However, the misunderstanding was all resolved when they got in touch with the Eilbecks, and learned how much they cared for and loved Pip. As Pip was being sent to different homes in the US, the Eilbecks were filing for a variety of papers to bring Pip back.
In the end, after a series of nightmarish paperworks, a relay team around the world was formed to bring Pip back to Australia. With the kind help of volunteers from Charlotte to Los Angeles, LA to Auckland and finally from Auckland to Melbourne, Pip was reunited with his family.
