A rescue pig has become a world-class painter after she was saved from a livestock facility back in 2016.
Thanks to the Farm Sanctuary SA, the South African pig got a second chance at life and is now happier than ever.
Pigcasso the rescue pig has a fan base of over 16k followers on Instagram and her works are in huge demand, earning the sanctuary where she is staying nearly $150,000 up to date.
When the rescuers first presented Pigcasso with toys she immediately picked interest in paintbrushes and paints. Thinking why not give her a try, the rescuers decided to buy Pigcasso non-toxic canvases and paintings.
Soon enough, the pig began producing unique masterpieces that her fans wanted to buy at all costs. Pigcasso also signs all of her works by leaving an imprint in the bottom right corner using her snout.
So far, Pigcasso managed to rake up nearly $150,000, with some of her most demanding works raising as much as $4,000. All of the earnings are dedicated to the preservation and the development of the animal sanctuary.
As it happens, 3-year-old Pigcasso is also the first animal ever to have her own artworks exhibition. The ‘Oink’ exhibition took place in 2018 and attracted Swiss watchmaker Swatch who picked interest in Pigcasso and created a series of colorful watches using her designs.
“I am so proud of Pigcasso,” Joanne Lefso, the artist’s handler, said in an interview with CBS News. “From pork chop to global Swatch designer, it’s just another reason to see pigs as the smart creative divas that they are — and to eat less bacon and to go shopping instead!”
