Nkosikho Mbele, who is a 28-year-old petrol pump station attendant, helped a stranded woman after seeing her in a risky side of the town.
Mbele helped in paying for the 21-year-old, Monet Van Deventer’s petrol in the car so that she has enough to drive off from the risky area. Deventer was alone in the Khayelitsha town, which is known to be dangerous and risky so, Mbele gave extra £5 to fill her tank fully.
Seeing the kindness shown by this man, he was later rewarded with more than £26,000.
Deventer set up a crowdfunding website for the kind man and very quickly the site raised more than £26,000. Mbele is really grateful for the amount as it is more than eight years of his salary which he earned in one day.
His story is now known by everyone around, but even after that, he remains humble. While talking to a local broadcaster, he said that he was just doing what anyone else would have done.
He further said that he doesn’t believe in differentiating as he wants to bring people together.
While the fund was raising money, Deventer also paid back the money she borrowed from him. Deventer said that while she was at the petrol pump, she asked him to stop filling fuel as she has left money and cards at home.
In return, the man said that ma’am you cannot run out of fuel on N2 as it is a dangerous area and he gave his own money to fill the tank.
Deventer claims that she was shocked to see how kind he was towards her. She has never really thought that people from South Africa can treat white people with such kindness.
Mbele said that he was really happy to know that after having a full tank, she’ll reach her destination safely. He says that he will use the money in the wisest way possible.
He has money from the fundraise, and also because of his kindness, his workplace raised the same amount of money. It is so good to see kindness around us.
