In one of their recent Twitter posts, PETA proudly shared their discovery that the word coronavirus is an anagram of carnivorous.

“Carnivorous is an anagram of coronavirus. Coincidence? We think NOT!” they captioned the photo.

Below the words coronavirus and carnivorous, PETA had also written: “Scientists have a hunch that contact with live animals or their dead flesh may be the source of the deadly virus.”

After their post went viral, PETA received a major backlash whereas even the organization’s loyal supporters slammed them for the comment.

“As a vegan, I do not approve of this absolutely idiotic message,” someone wrote.

“I support you PETA but this is totally inaccurate and stupid,” another one said.

One person suggested: “I wish there was an option to report this. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Yet another reason nobody takes you seriously as an organization any more.”

Soon enough, people have also come up with their own anagrams of the acronym PETA.

“PETA? People Eating Tasty Animals. Coincidence? I don’t think so,” someone joked.

“In Spanish ‘peta’ is the slang word for marihuana joint. Coincidence? We think NOT!” another one wrote.

Someone joked: “PETA is an anagram for ‘aetp’ which makes no sense, just like this tweet.”
