In a horrifying incident, a dog owner starved his dog so much that it had to eat rocks to try and survive but could not stay alive for long even after being rescued.
Police in Ohio came across the 2-year-old Doberman pinscher called Lou with serious open wounds.
Then, it was taken to a welfare check after the police could not contact anyone living in the home in April 2019.
The puppy’s owner, David Neanover, deprived the poor dog of water and food, and it was evident. After the dog was taken to an animal shelter, it was discovered it had ulcers on its tongue, and some parts of the tongue were missing, which made it difficult for him to eat.
When the dog was found, it was 20 pounds underweight as well as its ribcage was visible through its skin.
The dog had a staph infection and it was revealed in a Facebook post by the shelter that the puppy had not been given food for some time as well as was tied with a short chain.
The X-ray images of Lou showed that it had rocks in its digestive system. Richard Jones, Butler County Sheriff said that no human being with a sane mind could look at Lou and think it was acceptable.
He added that the photos are difficult to view and the condition of the dog was worse but the shelter would try everything to save the poor pup.
Lou was treated for 5 days at the shelter but could not be saved. Protests took place against the man but the grand jury did not charge him with animal cruelty. The dog owner’s attorney argued that Lou’s medical condition caused his death and not starvation.
People from Florida also wrote letters asking David to receive the maximum punishment. He was eventually sentenced to 180 days of prison as well as 90 days to be served concurrently.
