Street performers have been a fixture in towns and cities ever since humans first started banding together in larger communities. Some of these performers are just there hoping for some quick cash from passers-by but don’t really have much talent while there are also some jewels there that street crowds have the good fortune of watching because the level of talent approaches that which can be found in concert halls.
One particular street performer stands out not just because of his amazing voice but also because he masterfully plays his guitar just using his feet!
Meet Mark Goffeney, a street musician who was born without arms in 1969. He first started off his musical career with the trombone but his father eventually gave Mark his own guitar. Undaunted by the fact that he had no arms, Mark developed his own unique playing style that allowed him to play the guitar with his feet.
His talents even caught the attention of Fox Television where he played a principal role in the Emmy-nominated commercial “Feet” which was filmed in San Diego, California. Mark has even become internationally known because of his unique talent. In fact, he’s so good that you can say he can play on par with artists who play the guitar the traditional way.
The following video showcases just how talented Mark really is. The clip starts with a view just across the street with Mark strumming his guitar. Then he starts belting out the lyrics of Ventura Highway by the band America. At that point, you realize that Mark is not just a one-dimensional artist who can just play with his feet. He has a beautiful voice that accompanies the music he’s playing.
A few vehicles on the street even stop briefly to stare at this musician whose feet are literally dancing over the guitar’s strings seemingly effortlessly.point 243 |
