First you will need the following ingredients

The first step you will do is cut a thin slice off the lengthy side of your russet potato. You should have a long, oval section with no potato skin, like the picture above.

Next you will want to take a paring knife and cut five or six rings inside the opening you just created. Depending on the size of the potato you may need a few more or a few less rings. Try to eyeball it and do what feels right. Make sure when you’re cutting these things that you’re not going all the way through the potato.

Then flip the potato so you no longer see the fleshy part of the potato. Make downward cuts on the edges of the potato. Be sure to not cut in the middle of the potato as that will ruin your hard work! Unlike before, you will want to make sure your cuts go all the through the potato. Do this around the entire potato.

When you flip the potato back over you will see now there is a really neat looking design.

With the fleshy part of the potato still facing up, place the potato in the center of some aluminum foil. Sprinkle a bit of salt and pour some olive oil on the potato.

You want the seasoning and oil to really sink and soak into the potato so you get the full effect of their flavor. Rub them in, if necessary.

Now wrap the potato up in the foil and bake it in the oven at 425°F for around an hour. Feel free to relax and watch TV or prepare some other part of your meal.

As the hour ends, the potato should begin to turn golden brown. When the outside skin has turned from golden brown to dark brown, your baking is now done.

If all you wanted was the perfect baked potato with butter, then you could stop here and chow down. But you could also make your bloomin’ potato even better.

Sprinkle a liberal amount of shredded cheese on your potato and let it bake for an additional 5 minutes. The cheese will melt deep inside the potato giving it excellent flavor.

If you still want some more, you can also bacon on it and then throw it in the oven for an additional 5 minutes. Top it all off with some sour cream and you have an absolutely delicious plate.
