Last Sunday, Liz Cheney had stated that 74 million Americans who voted for Donald trump in the last election were “misled” and “betrayed”.
Not only did she say this, but she also accused House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and Representative Elise Stefanik of being complicit with the lie that Trump has been telling the public of winning the 2020 election.
Although she voted for Trump in last year’s election, she says that she regrets the decision and that the former president is a “real danger to democracy” because of his false claims of election fraud.
Last Saturday, Trump continues to comment about his loss that happened last year.point 171 | He says that “our Country is being destroyed, both inside and out, the Presidential Election of 2020 will go down as THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!” With this statement, his followers still stand by him and continue to give him support, wanting to take back control of the House and Senate once the 2022 midterm election rolls around.point 455 | 1
Liz Cheney rejects the argument, saying that if we “embrace the big lie, we are embracing what former President Trump continues to say on a nearly daily basis, which is claims that the election was stolen… he knows [the language he used] provoke[d] violence on January 6th.”
She continues to say that Trump’s lies are “dangerous,” and compares it to what the Chinese say about The United States democracy. She comments “to cause that kind of questioning about our process.. that it’s a failed system, that America is a failed nation… I won’t be part of that. And I think it’s very important for Republics who won’t be part of that to stand up and speak out.”
She’s been having a tough time fighting those who have been complacent in terms of addressing the “Big Life,” since they are not testifying to the public. After the January 6th incident with the Capitol riot, Cheney says that it was her last straw supporting the former president.
There have been several Republicans that have stated that Trump should have done more to rein in his supporters on that day, McCarthy even called him out, saying that Trump bore the responsibility for the event at hand.
Cheney tells sources that former president Trump is “unfit” but she will not be leaving the Republican party just because of her opinions.
She is also not ruling out her own presidential bid in the future in order to keep Trump from winning a second term.
