Thousands Of People March Through UK Cities And Towns For BLM Protest


Thousands of people have marched through the streets of Manchester and London to stand up for black rights.

The protesters were both parts of many peaceful demonstrations planned across the United Kingdom as protests continue over George Floyd’s death.

Protesters in central London knelt down during a minute’s silence before chanting: “No justice, no peace.”

One participant told LADbible that it was the biggest protest she had ever witnessed in the city. “It was really peaceful and people tried to practice social distancing as much as they could,” she shared, adding: “It felt very special.”

Another demonstrator said: “The majority of people wore face masks and there was a guy handing out free hand sanitizer bottles.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock recently urged the public not to disobey lockdown rules, letting Brits not to attend protests ‘of more than 6 people.’

“Like so many, I am appalled by the death of George Floyd and I understand why people are deeply upset, but we are still facing a health crisis and coronavirus remains a real threat,” he said.

“The reason that it is vital that people stick to the rules this weekend is to protect themselves and their family from this horrific disease,” Mr. Hancock continued.

“So please, for the safety of your loved ones, do not attend large gatherings, including demonstrations of more than six people.”

Demonstrators can be seen in photos trying to follow social distancing rules, with others wearing gloves and face masks as they marched the streets.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “We stand alongside all those who are appalled and horrified by the way George Floyd lost his life – justice and accountability should follow.

“We know people want their voices heard and the right to peaceful protest is a key part of democracy, which UK police uphold.”

The statement added: “Our officers will monitor the situation to maintain the safety of all involved. A top priority for us will be striking the balance and ensuring any response is both proportionate and fair.”
