People have allegedly been stocking up on condoms in an attempt to keep their hands clean and protect themselves from coronavirus.
As one shopper from Sydney, Australia, explained, she was shocked to see all of the condoms at a local supermarket sold out.
After posting the picture on the internet and asking people for an explanation, several users quickly claimed that people have begun panic-buying condoms after seeing a social media post in which it was suggested that putting the contraceptives on fingers can protect you from catching coronavirus.
“There has been some stupid post telling people to put condoms on their fingers to press buttons etc,” someone wrote.
“Perhaps a new marketing ploy, just use your clothed elbow to avoid more rubbish being placed in the environments,” one user suggested.
Meanwhile, hordes of shoppers were caught on camera purchasing huge amounts of toilet paper amid coronavirus scare.
One such stampede was seen at a Woolworths in Sydney, Australia, where desperate customers picked all of the remaining toilet paper from the shelves.
As seen in the photos taken by fellow shoppers, some customers were carrying multiple packs of toilet paper at a time.
After a huge spike in demand for toilet paper, Woolworths was left with no option but to limit toilet paper sales to four packs per shopper.
Meanwhile, one Aldi branch limited the sales of toilet paper to one packet per person after frantic customers stormed and emptied the aisle.
“Attention, toilet paper will be limited to 1 UNIT of any TYPE per customer. So only 1 toilet paper per sale,” the announcement at Epping’s Aldi read.
“Any customer coming in again that is recognized to have already purchased within 24 hours will be refused as everyone deserves some toilet paper not only a few.”
According to the reports, plenty of people not only in Australia but also in other countries are stocking up on toilet paper due to fears that the coronavirus outbreak could cause a shortage.
