A town in Australia is being plagued by an incurable and mysterious ‘hive-like’ rash.

People in the Victorian town of Lara took to a Facebook group and complained about a ‘pimply-rash’ infecting more than 100 locals.

However, reports said the rash has already spread beyond the town as the condition affected residents of Geelong and Bacchus Marsh, almost 50 kilometers away.

Lara local Donna Leitch said to the Geelong Advertiser that her face has been covered in rash for more than two months and doctors don’t know exactly what it is.

“They can’t tell me what it is, or what’s causing it – doctors just throw creams and antibiotics at you,” she expressed.

Miss Leitch also said her daughter has the rash on her back but her skin improved after a trip to Melbourne.

Her daughter’s back flared up again when she came back home to Lara.

Over 400 others commented on the Facebook post saying they are having similar skin problems, with others describing the rash as blistering and itchy.

Some locals fear the condition could be related to the water supply as many reported tap water seemed to be murky.

“It always seems to flare up when I have a shower – I’ve never been so itchy in my life,” one resident said.

Others had to take sick leave as the rash made them feel fatigued and very uncomfortable.

Many residents revealed authorities ‘laughed’ at them when they complained about their skin conditions.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services said to Daily Mail Australia that they’re working with health services to understand the problem.

Barwon Water issued a statement on Facebook: “Lara’s water is unquestionably safe.”

It added: “We have undertaken checks on our online instruments and routine sampling results for Lara and water quality is well within the guidelines.”
