Tom Rawlings, the director of Georgia’s Division of Family and Children Services, said to Good Morning America: “We have people waiting in line to provide that child with a forever home.”

Officials say over 1,000 people are waiting to adopt the girl, who has been named India. In Georgia alone, there is a waiting list of more than 200 families looking up to adopt babies.

India was found by two sisters, Kayla and Kyler Ragatz, who immediately called the police on June 6 in Forsyth County north of Atlanta.

They said they had heard a noise like a kitten but noticed a small arm sticking out of the bag. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a baby girl who still had umbilical cord attached to her. She was also stained with blood but fortunately, she had no injuries.

Authorities have been searching for the mother and took to social media to ask if anyone knows “a female who was in late stages of pregnancy.”

They are also asking for tips about a woman who just gave birth but doesn’t have a child.

India is now a happy and healthy baby. Rawlings said, “In child protective services we deal with a lot of tragedy, of course, but it’s great to have a miracle. And this truly is a miracle.”

He added: “I’ve been working child protective services for almost 20 years now, this is one of the most exciting, wonderful miracles I’ve seen in my life.”
