The Pentagon has refused to allow any Pride flags to fly at US military bases across the country.
Local media outlets were quick to reveal how the Pentagon plans on making no changes to its existent rules in place, claiming how there would be no exception made to Pride flags being flown across military bases.
Moreover, this means the Biden’s Pentagon refuses to make any changes to the Trump-era policy from July 2020 that refused to allow any Pride flags from flying across any building in the US.
In a recent press conference for the media, Pentagon’s spokesperson John Kirby boldly outlined the laws in place and how the Pentagon would certainly not be making an exception to the rule.point 279 |
Kirby revealed, “After some careful consideration, the department plans on maintaining its existing policy from July 2020.point 112 | And that is in regards to the display or the depiction of any sort of unofficial flag,” he added on Friday.point 205 | 1
Without a doubt, the news was a step back for members of the LGBTQ community who looked forward to seeing a change this year, particularly this month while is known as the month of Pride.
However, the Pentagon spokesperson was also quick to mention how the decision in no way means any form of disrespect or intolerance for the LGBTQ community.
“It should be known that this decision does not in any way reflect any form of disrespect of the admiration for any individuals who hail from the LGBTQ community as well as the personnel that are present in and out of their uniform, that work to serve the department.”
Initially, the flag ban was put in place at the start as a means of restricting all Confederate flags from flying. However, it has also had the major effect of limiting plenty of things such as the Pride flag as well as those relating to different sports teams.
