S. Department of Defense has allegedly announced that the government has been interested in UFOs, to which they refer to as ‘unidentified aerial phenomena,’ and studied cases as a part of the secret initiative before it was made public in 2017.

According to The New York Post’s report on the matter, the representative confirmed the initiative called Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program served as the base of Pentagon’s investigations into unexplained and mysterious aircraft.

As Nick Pope, a former British defense official told the outlet, the term ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ is used by the government to avoid all the fluff and science fiction associated with the UFOs.

“This new admission makes it clear that they really did study what the public would call ‘UFOs,’” Mr. Pope said.

“It also shows the British influence, because UAP was the term we used in the Ministry of Defence to get away from the pop culture baggage that came with the term ‘UFO.’”

The announcement follows a month after the U.S. Navy revealed that the amount of unidentified, “highly advanced aircraft” has been rising in its air space.

“There have been a number of reports of unauthorized and/or unidentified aircraft entering various military-controlled ranges and designated air space in recent years,” a Navy spokesperson told the Politico back in April.

Previously, in 2017, Pentagon hit the headlines after a former official revealed that the government has been running a secret initiative, the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, that people linked to the study of UFOs.

The $22million government program aimed to collect and investigate alleged sighting reports in order to “ascertain and determine if that information is a potential threat to national security.”

Among the reports investigated by the authorities were alleged sightings by two U.S. Navy Super Hornet pilots who claimed to have seen a mysterious oval-shaped aircraft with “no plumes, wings or rotors,” hovering above the ground.
