Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that it would be ‘harmful to unity’ not to impeach Donald Trump.

She said that the former president does not deserve a “get out of jail card” only because he has left office, the Daily Mail reported.

“It will be soon, I don’t think it will be long, but we must do it,” Pelosi continued as she plans to send the impeachment article against Trump to the Senate in ‘a few days.’

The Speaker said it would be “harmful to unity” to just forget that many “people died here on January the 6th, the attempt to undermine our election, to undermine our democracy, to dishonor our Constitution.”

Republicans have claimed that the impeachment failed to live up to President Joe Biden’s unity theme.

But Pelosi continued: “Joe Biden said it beautifully: ‘If you’re going to unite, you must remember.’”

Pelosi added: “Just because he’s gone now, thank God, you don’t say to a president ‘do whatever you want in the last months of your administration.’

Pelosi said that she will talk to the House impeachment managers “in the next few days” about when “the Senate will be ready” to receive the impeachment article against Trump.

“We will be in another few days, when I’ll be talking with managers, as to when the Senate will be ready for the trial of the then President of the United States for his role in instigating an insurrection on the House, on the Capital of the United States, on our democracy to undermine the will of the people, “ Pelosi said.

She said at a press conference on Capitol Hill: “We had to wait for the president, the Senate to be in session. They’ve now informed us they’re ready to receive.

“The question is, other questions about how a trial will proceed. But we are, we are ready.”
