Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his fiancée Brittany Matthews just announced the birth of their daughter Sterling.
Sterling Skye Mahomes weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces when she was born on Saturday.
The excited couple each shared a photo of their newborn holding Matthew’s finger as she wore a sparkling necklace with her daughter’s name on it.
The parents received heartwarming messages from many people, including Mahomes’ younger brother Jackson, who also took to social media to welcome his niece.
“I’m so happy for you guys and can’t wait for all the adventures and happy times … Love you 3,” he wrote on Sunday, adding that Brittany “will be the best mom!” and Patrick would “be the best dad.”
Mahomes and Matthews got engaged in 2020 at Arrowhead Stadium as his teammates and the signal-caller collected their Super Bowl rings.
The quarterback, who signed a 10-year $503 million contract extension with the Chiefs last year, led his team again to the Super Bowl in 2021. However, they fell short against the Tampa Bay Bucks and Tom Brady.
In an interview with The Drive last autumn, Mahomes said that he was comfortable in evolving into a family man.
“I think it’s just about growing up, about having the responsibility and evolving as a family,” he expressed.
“I think we’ve done that – me and Brittany, and the people around me – and I’m just excited for the future ahead of being able to keep building and keep becoming a better person for my family and this world.”
In a 2020 interview with KCSP 610 Sports Radio, the athlete said that a difficult 2020 was made special thanks to their engagement.
“Those things are special, that you don’t get to happen a lot in your life,” he said.
“Being able to be a dad and being able to get married here soon, I’m truly thankful for that. I mean, the Super Bowl was awesome as well, but those things change your life, and it’s bigger than football.”
