Passengers started sending farewell messages to their loved ones after an incident caused their plane’s engine to catch on fire.
Flight 312 by Canadian airline Swoop was in for a dramatic turn of events as a flock of geese swarmed the plane and got sucked into one of the aircraft’s engines, causing it to malfunction and catch on fire.
Following the engine’s breakdown, terrified passengers were worried about the risk of their plane crashing down and ending their lives.
As the plane turned back to Abbotsford International Airport in Edmonton, Canada, to make an emergency landing, several shocked passengers wrote heartbreaking messages to their loved ones.
“Basically as the aircraft was rolling down the runway, it felt like we hit a bump. Next thing I know I start seeing flames coming out of the right engine… I also felt very strong heat…” one of the passengers, Fadhl Abu-Ghanem, recalled.
“I looked around for a flight attendant and couldn’t find one so I just started yelling, ‘There’s fire, fire, fire right engine, fire right engine!’ It was very overwhelming; you don’t expect it. I started texting my mom saying, ‘Something’s wrong with the airplane. I love you.’”
Passenger Donna-Lee Rayner shared her insight on the nightmare flight on Facebook where she wrote:
“Board the plane all is well. Take off happens and all of the sudden this loud thud thud thud thud happens … smoke in the cabin and the smell of burning. I’m surprisingly calm but yet curious. Start my goodbye messages in case my phone is recovered after we crash.
“The intercom comes on… ‘One of the engines sucked up some geese and the smell was them, well getting cooked, we are currently running on two engines and we are turning around back to Abbotsford.”
As another resident of a town that the unfortunate plane flew over revealed, “there were huge flames shooting out from the plane every time that there was an explosion and there were several explosions.”
Following a safe emergency landing, Swoop Airline posted an update about the flight on Twitter and wrote:
“Update: We can confirm Flight 312 landed safely in Abbotsford due to a bird strike shortly after departure.
“All travelers were offloaded safely and without incident. Thank you to our captain and crew for ensuring the safety of our travelers.”
