While the cause of the crash is still being determined, early reports suggest that the incident is likely not connected to the on-going conflict in the eastern parts of the country.

As Oleksiy Kucher, the governor of Kharkiv Oblast, a province located in eastern Ukraine, allegedly suggested, preliminary information indicates that a pilot had reported engine failure moments prior to the crash.

According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, however, the governor suggested that the engine failure shouldn’t result in a critical situation.
