A hero parrot has made the news after saving his owner from what could easily turn out to be a deadly house fire.
As Anton Nguyen from Kangaroo Point in Queensland, Australia, explained, he was sleeping when a fire erupted at his home at around 2 in the morning.
Before the smoke detectors could alert him of the imminent danger, Anton was awakened by his parrot, Eric, who started calling his owner by his name and making loud noises to alert him of the fire.
“I heard a bang and Eric, my parrot, he started to yell so I woke up and I smelled a bit of smoke,” Mr. Nguyen said in an interview with ABC News.
“I grabbed Eric, opened the door and looked to the back of the house and saw some flames. And so I’ve grabbed my bag and took off and bolted downstairs.”
As Anton revealed, his life-saving pet was calling him by his name and managed to wake him up just in time to escape the fast-growing flames that could otherwise cost him his life.
Following the devastating home fire, a spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance confirmed that Nguyen was checked by the paramedics upon their arrival. However, he did not require further treatment and was not taken to a hospital.
As the authorities confirmed, the fire was controlled by 3.30 in the morning, almost an hour and a half after they were called to the scene.
As of this writing, the fire remains under investigation whereas investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
