Parents Named Twins Covid And Corona As They Were Born During Coronavirus Lockdown


Twins named Corona and Covid have gone viral after it was revealed that their parents named them after the coronavirus pandemic because they were born during the lockdown.

As Vinay and Preeti Verma from India explained, they decided to name their twins after the disease in an attempt to break the stigma and fear surrounding these words.

“We have named them Covid and Corona for now,” the 27-year-old mother said in an interview with Press Trust of India, indicating that the couple might change their twins’ names at a later date.

Corona and Covid were born healthy on March 27 at Raipur’s Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital.

With strict lockdown measures in place in India, the parents allegedly weren’t free of challenges on their way to the hospital.

As local media reported, the couple was stopped on the way to the hospital several times. Due to Preeti’s condition, however, the police let them pass.

“As no vehicular movement was allowed on roads due to the lockdown, we were stopped by police at various places but they let us go after noticing my condition,” the woman said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

“I was wondering what would happen in the hospital as it was midnight, but fortunately doctors and other staff were very cooperative.”

As for the reason to name her kids after the deadly pandemic, Preeti explained how she and her husband “wanted to make the day memorable”.

“Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names,” she said.
