A couple have been left shocked after finding thousands of fentanyl pills inside a stuffed toy they bought at a thrift store in Arizona.
The mom and dad said that they bought a green Glo Worm stuffed toy for their daughter last week.
They decided to clean the toy first before giving it to their young girl but while washing it down, they discovered a bag containing 5,000 fentanyl pills.
The shocked parents immediately contacted Phoenix Police who seized the sandwich bag of drugs.
“Parents purchased a glow worm at a thrift store in El Mirage for their daughter. When they got to their north Phoenix home they cleaned and washed the toy before they let her play with it,” the Phoenix Police Department wrote on Facebook.
“Imagine their surprise when they looked inside and found a sandwich bag with over 5,000 believed to be fentanyl. They immediately called #phoenixpolice and handed the dangerous drugs over to officers.
“Great job parents! Remember, please inspect all opened and used items for your family’s safety,” the police added.
One person commented: “Holy Crap, thank God they found this before that baby/or any other child played with that.”
Another wrote: “I wouldnt buy a used stuffed toy …way too many germs that cannot be removed…the stuffing alone has them…”
A third said: “How scary. Imagine a child ingesting just a small amount of that.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention named fentanyl “the most dangerous drug in the America.” In 2016 alone, the prescription drug caused over 18,000 deaths.
It is usually only prescribed by doctors for treating severe pain. The synthetic opioid is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.
