Parents normally treat becoming “empty nesters” with a mix of trepidation and excitement.
On the one hand, they finally have the house to themselves after their kids have moved out. On the other hand, they’ll miss having their kids with them.
But one set of parents didn’t seem to be conflicted at all. In fact, when 22-year-old photographer Haley Marie Jones finally moved out of her parents’ house, they even seemed excited and she captured that sentiment perfectly in a hilarious empty nester photo shoot that instantly became viral.
Jones wrote on the Haley Marie Photography Facebook page (her newly established photography business): “Most parents are a little sad when they hit the ’empty nest’ phase of life. However, my parents seem thrilled.”
The couple, from Pontotoc, Mississippi, are Randy and Amy English. They have been married for 15 years and have one grandchild so far. “His name is Carter and they absolutely adore him,” Jones said.
Yahoo! Lifestyle reported that the couple agreed to the photo shoot when Jones signed a lease in March. Never did they expect that they would become internet sensations because of it.
“The idea was just random. We threw it together in a matter of hours!! They were joking about finally [having] an empty nest and this was the outcome,” Jones explained.
And while she made the props, it was her mom who thought them up, including the phrases that were used.
“They loved the outcome of the pictures but had no clue it would be this huge,” Jones said. The pictures generated 77,000 comments and were shared nearly 200,000 times in the three days that Jones uploaded them.
While the response was unexpected, it wasn’t unwelcome for Jones.
“I am loving that it’s getting shared and put out there because my business is gaining attention, and it could potentially benefit me with booking shoots,” she said.
As Jones looks forward to getting more business, Randy and Amy are looking forward to spending more quality time together as a couple.
Jones said, “She has a nice following and people started messaging her from all over saying ‘is this you???’ And it just shocked her! It was a super funny thing to happen, having people we know from all over the U.S. sending us pictures of us on the news!”
