“One of the worst experiences as a parent is to go through the loss of a child,” Jose A. Prosper of the FDNY wrote in a tribute to the daughter of one of the department’s newest members.

Following the child’s tragic passing, a GoFundMe page was also created to help the grieving parents pay for the medical expenses associated with Jay’s stay at the hospital.

In the tribute to the little girl, Monique added:

“She loved music and enjoyed hearing it during bath time and car rides. She loved to be sung to, enjoyed watching bright colors, hearing mommy and daddy’s voice, being kissed and hugged and most of all being rocked to sleep.

“(…) We call her the Warrior Princess because she fought Covid-19 like nobody’s business!!!! Her fight inspired all of the nurses, doctors and staff members that knew her. Her purpose was served and she was called home on 4/20/2020. We thought we were having a baby, but had an angel instead.”

After Jay’s story went viral, Good Samaritans have donated over $40,000 to the family, four times more than the amount asked for.
