A 7-Eleven store owner from Toledo, Ohio, has made headlines after he generously helped a hungry teen who was caught shoplifting in his convenience store.
Instead of calling cops on him, the owner gave the boy enough food to feed himself and his family.
Jitendra Singh, nicknamed Jay, owns and operates a 7-Eleven. On April 7, a teenager was caught stealing snacks from his store while Singh was in the back room.
After confronting the teen, Singh asked one of his employees to call cops.
But something unexpected happened just the next moment. Shopper Cedric Bishop, who was there and witnessed the entire incident, later shared it on Facebook.
“The owner made him empty out his pockets,” Bishop wrote of the encounter. “He had a lot of munchies. The young man said he only wanted to feed himself and his little brother.”
It was when Singh told his employee to hang up the call made to 911.
He had made up his mind to help the teenager, even though Bishop recalled that “there was another man in the store that offered to pay for the merchandise the young man took.”
“The owner said, ‘This is not food. You want food? I give you food,’” Bishop wrote.
In an unexpected move, Singh started gathering food products more worthwhile than candy and chips. He picked up a sausage roll, a pizza, and a two-liter soda container.
He then offered the merchandise to the teen without any charges.
“It’s not going to make any difference to me if I give him some food, because we make a lot of food, we sell a lot of food,” Singh told WTVG.
“If he goes to jail, then he’s definitely not going to do anything good in life.”
Bishop was moved by Singh’s heartwarming act. “I thought that was an amazing thing the owner did,” he wrote in his post.

Singh’s wife Neera told WTVG: “I’m really proud of him, and it is the true self of himself.
“I know him, he’s very kind. We are part of the community, and we have to help the community. It is a part of our job.”
