55-Year-Old Woman Was Left BLIND And Had To TAPE Her Drooping Eyelid Open To See After Visiting A Local Spa To Get Botox

A 55-year-old woman has shared how she was left temporarily blind one week after a Botox surgery in a local spa that doesn’t employ doctors.

Shari Budner from Georgia had a mini-stroke in 2014 and ever since then she lost 22kg. She also had slight sagging in the face that she wanted to get reduced by receiving Botox.

On May 12, the entrepreneur went to a local spa in Canton where she received a thread lift procedure, which involved getting an injection of Xeomin Botox.

Xeomin is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles. It is used for improving the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

However, it can also cause serious side effects such as difficulty breathing and swallowing and the spread of toxins throughout the body. This can result in double and blurred vision, muscle weakness, and drooping eyelids.

Budner – who suffered hoarseness of her voice, drooping eyelids, as well as blurred vision – shared her experience on social media to warn others of the risk of Botox as local spas that do not employ doctors.

“If you are considering any injections, specifically an eyebrow lift do your research before you go anywhere new,” she said.

“My quality of life is diminished to where I couldn’t work, and I was a nervous wreck driving as I have no peripheral vision in my left eye.”

She said that it was not her first time getting an injection but the incident was the first at that spot of her face. “I am beside myself with embarrassment and anger for not researching this specific area of treatment beforehand and reading the fine print.”

Budner said that she returned to the clinic and after an examination, the clinician injected more Botox into her temple to “relax the area” and force the muscles to work even harder.

But she believed it was already too late and knew it would be better to seek treatment somewhere else.

“I did receive a partial refund for being overcharged, however the amount of time I lost unable to work and the inability to drive pales in comparison,” she shared.

She then visited a doctor who gave her a prescription of Upneeq drops. While the drops helped to improve her drooping eye, they only lasted for six hours.

Budner said that she had to use Steri-Strips to keep her left eye open.

“After a week of the med spa not responding to emails, I chose to see a medical doctor to have him examine the incisions of the thread lift to be certain they were healing properly so another out-of-pocket expense I should not have incurred,” she shared.

“This new doctor did prescribe Apraclonidine on Thursday the 25 of June and it’s made an improvement already.”

Xeomin Botox takes up to six months to wear off but Shari is now recovering, thanks to the eye drops prescribed by her new doctor.
