A 33-year-old model has sparked a debate on social media after she shared a list of reasons why she doesn’t want to have children.
Ellie Gonsalves took to Instagram and shared a screen recording of her scrolling to her list of reasons why she has decided to be child-free but people were left divided by her post.
She titled her list “Why I don’t want kids” and explained on her Instagram Story that it seemed a short reason was not good enough.
“So, this is in more detail for those asking. It’s my own PERSONAL thoughts based on a lot of my own experiences or things very honest people have shared with me personally or online,” she expressed.
“Some people are made to be parents and that is amazing (I am so happy if you are happy!!!!) but that life is just not [for] me.”
Some of her reasons are: “There will never be a break from parenthood,” “they are YOUR responsibility until the day you die,” “post partum hair loss,” “kids can be wildly embarrassing,” and more.
Ellie admitted that she had received hundreds of messages telling her how horrible and broken she was.
“While some of those things on my list are satirical, many are serious & factual. Societal pressure when it comes to this topic are (sic) truly questionable & I believe unfair towards those with differing opinions & rarely do we see a voice in support of this … because let’s face it, the public backlash can be too much,” she added.
She also explained that she’s always happy for a friend who wanted to have kids.
“I believe I have the right to share my position & be supportive of those who want children, have children or are having children & I am equally going to support someone who doesn’t want to be a parent,” she added.
