A pregnant woman has opened up about her unbelievable experience involving an angry old woman and a cup of coffee.
As the 36-year-old lady in question revealed in her Reddit post, she was heavily pregnant and at a local coffee shop when the barista called her to say the coffee she had ordered was ready.
The exchange was seen by an old woman who immediately intervened and repeatedly ordered the mom-to-be not to drink coffee despite not even knowing her.
After the young lady accepted the drink despite the grandmother’s warnings, the woman forcefully grabbed the cup of coffee and threw it straight into a trash can.
“I’ve ordered the coffee (just a grande cold brew, nothing crazy), and am standing at the end of the counter waiting. The barista calls my name and drink order. I go to take it,” the mom-to-be recalled.
After approaching the counter, the woman was confronted by a stranger who yelled: “You can’t have that. YOU CAN’T HAVE THAT YOU’RE PREGNANT.”
That’s when the old woman grabbed the cup and threw it right into the trash can next to her, leaving the customers and the barista gobsmacked.
After realizing what just happened, the 36-year-old responded by saying: “You cannot be serious. It’s fine. My doctor even says it’s fine.
“Please leave me alone. I’m tired, and want my coffee. I get one cup a day, this is it. Please go away.”
Refusing to back down, the angry grandma then allegedly started screaming like a banshee in an attempt to get her point across.
“NO YOU CAN’T HAVE IT YOU’RE PREGNANT IT WILL MAKE YOU HAVE THE BABY NOW YOU CAN’T DO IT I WON’T LET MY DAUGHTER DO IT EITHER BUT SHE DRINKS IT ANYWAY AND IF I CAN’T SAVE HER I’LL SAVE YOU INSTEAD,” she yelled.
After the heated exchange, the barista prepared another coffee for the lady only for the old woman to try and snatch it from her hands as well.
“So I yelled. For her to stop trying to come near me. I literally, loudly (and even now have a bit of a shake from doing it), shouted ‘PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE. YOU’RE MAKING ME UNCOMFORTABLE AND I DON’T WANT YOU THIS CLOSE,’” the 36-year-old added.
“She stopped, did this fish mouth gaping thing, went ‘UGH FINE’ and left. The barista gave me a drink coupon and apologized for the stress, but goodness. How can someone think that’s OK?”
After taking her story to Reddit, baffled viewers found it hard to believe something like this could even happen.
“I am FURIOUS for you, this post almost had me shaking after reading it. I drink safe amounts of caffeine (often in the form of coffee) almost daily because my own doctor told me to do so for my constant migraines which were impeding my ability to function.
He – and many other sources I’ve read since, plus a second opinion from another OB – assured me it is safe when kept below a certain amount. But even if it wasn’t, this woman had no right to treat you that way,” someone wrote.
“Wow. It is so annoying how others think they can interject themselves into others lives. Obviously if you’re this far along, this probably isn’t your first cup of coffee during pregnancy and you’ve made it thus far,” another said.
The third suggested: “This is insane. I hate confrontation too and probably would have started crying! It sounds like you did a good job standing up for yourself!”
