A young woman has spoken out to defend her relationship with a much older man after people said her relationship was fake.
22-year-old Brightnye Quayle is a model and a diving instructor from Queensland who fell head over heels with 57-year-old James whom she got engaged to after a year of dating.
As the young lady revealed, she met her boyfriend “organically” at a casino when he approached her after she made a bizarre order consisting of nine sandwiches at the bar.
“We actually met totally organically at the casino. I was the girl who bought nine sandwiches because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time,” Brightnye says.
“He came up behind me and said that I should come talk to him, so I did.”
Recalling their first encounter, James added: “I thought anyone who is buying nine sandwiches was either starving to death or needed to be spoken to.”
While James was already married for 30 years and has four daughters, this didn’t stop him and Brightnye from hitting it off and starting a relationship that quickly got them thousands of followers on social media where they are documenting their journey as a couple.
Amid constant backlash and accusations that their relationship is fake, the couple decided to speak out and defend their big age gap.
“The comments are interesting. A lot of them are about money, it’s ridiculous. I was married to my wife for 30 years, bought her a Maserati, paid for everything… what is the difference?” James said.
“Every relationship, well certainly traditional relationships where the man looks after the woman, of course you’re going to spend money, it’s not an issue. And not relevant.”
Meanwhile, Brightnye admitted that she does get mistaken for her fiancé’s daughter or even granddaughter at times.
As it appears, however, the couple doesn’t let all the attention get in their way, whereas they recently announced they would be taking a break from social media until the end of the year.
