A woman who had got a couch for free through Craigslist couldn’t believe it when she found $36,000 cash inside it.
Vicky Umodu from California had just moved to San Bernardino County and was searching for furniture for her new home when she saw the advertisement for a free couch.
“I said, ‘Maybe it’s a gimmick.’ I said, ‘Let me call them,’” Umodu told ABC.
Umodu explained that she just moved into her new home and she did not have anything in their house. So when she found the couch on Craigslist, she couldn’t contain her excitement the moment she picked it up.
But what she did not expect was to discover $36,000 in cash hidden inside her couch!
She found the money in one of the cushions she initially thought was a heating pad. When she couldn’t find the electrical cord, that’s when she discovered the large sum of money.
Inside envelopes was the $36,000. “I was just telling my son, ‘Come, come, come!’ I was screaming. ‘This is money! I need to call the guy.’”
Umodu said that she wasn’t tempted to take the cash so she called the man who gave the couch away and returned the money.
As a thank you, Umodu was rewarded with $2,200, which she then use to buy a new refrigerator.
“God has been kind to me and my children, they’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?” she said.
One person commented: “Good job doing the right thing and keeping God at the forefront. Temptation is the devil’s work!”
Another wrote: “All I ever find in my couch are old peanuts and popcorn.”
A third said: “There some good honest people in the world and this lady is one of them.”
