A young woman who claims to be Madeleine McCann has issued a heartbreaking message to those who sent her hurtful comments.
21-year-old Julia Wendell from Poland has gone viral after she claimed that she could be the missing girl, who was kidnapped from an apartment in Portugal in 2007.
She claims that she looks similar to Maddie and her parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, adding that she also has a rare eye defect.
When asked by Dr. Fia Johansson if she has any message for those who were calling her a liar, she said: “I can say… thank you for support, these people who supported me and… f*** off to people who made me cry.
“I’m sorry I had to but telling me that I should die, it’s very, very mad. It’s not nice.”
“I didn’t plan it for months to become McCann just because someone said something.”
Julia continued: “You are not in my situation so you can’t say what I should do. I’m not ashamed because this is my past, it’s not about this case.
“This is the best way I can do for myself and you don’t know me personally, so don’t judge me please.”
“In my heart and in my soul I think that (I am Madeleine), but in my mind I need DNA to be sure,” she added.
Despite some similarities between Madeleine and Julia, neither the Find Madeleine Campaign nor London’s Metropolitan Police have issued statements about the 21-year-old’s claims.
Madeleine disappeared from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz resort on the evening of May 3, 2007, while her parents were at a restaurant only meters away from their villa.
Gerry and Kate recently vowed to ‘never give up’ their quest to find their daughter. It is estimated the British police probe to find the missing girl has cost £13 million ($23 million).
