A 17-year-old TikToker who was mocked after sharing a video of herself with her first ‘luxury bag’ is now modeling for Charles & Keith.
Zoe Gabriel’s video, which went viral in January with more than 22 million views and 2.3 million likes, shows her enjoying the gift from her father.
The item from the Singaporean company cost $80 but she described it as a ‘luxury bag.’
However, many people made fun of her for calling the bag a luxury item, with one hater commenting: “Who’s gonna tell her.”
The teen then explained in a follow-up video that the bag is a luxury for her because her family did not have much money growing up.
“Growing up, I did not have a lot. My family didn’t have a lot,” she explained.
“We couldn’t buy things as simple as bread.”
She went on: “To you, an $80 bag may not be a luxury. For me and my family, it is a lot, and I’m so grateful that my dad was able to get me one. He worked so hard for that money.”
Many people were quick to defend her, with one writing: “Doesn’t matter if is a luxury brand, Its love from your dad, no Chanel or Hermes can replace a father love. Still happy for you.”
Another said: “Nobody starts at the same road, disgusting comments on what defines luxury for someone. You go love!”
Only two months after sharing the video, Zoe is now a model and a community ambassador for Charles & Keith.
The company shared an Instagram photo showing the teen sporting a gray sweater dress, black boots, and a lavender purse.
Zoe was also invited to lunch with the company’s founders and toured the building’s offices.
In addition, the fashion influencer has also been spotted in some AirAsia promo videos on TikTok.
Zoe wore the airline’s bright red uniform and she can be seen dancing to a remix of Taylor Swift’s song I Think He Knows.
